I was selling, and servicing, Bosch powered e-bikes from Raleigh as early as 2017. B(http://2017.Bosch)osch electric systems are typically found on bikes from Trek, Cannondale, Scott, Cube, Focus, Orbea, Raleigh, Haibike, Santa Cruz & Pivot. We can provide professional servicing and diagnostics to all these brands.
I began servicing Yamaha e-bike systems in 2020, when Cycle Tech started as a Haibike dealer. Yamaha electric systems feature mainly on Haibike, with a few Lapierre models. We can provide professional servicing, diagnostics and spares for all Yamaha systems on these bike brands.
I started servicing Shimano Steps motor systems as a Merida dealer in 2018. Merida bikes exclusively used Shimano motors in those early years of e-bike development. These days Shimano Steps systems feature on bikes from Commencal, Canyon, Trek, Yeti, Norco, Scott & Canta Cruz. We can provide professional servicing, diagnostics & spares for the Shimano Steps system on all these bikes.

Yes, but the cost for labour is the responsibility of the retailer. I'm able to support warranty claims for Bosch, Shimano, Yamaha and Go Cycle electric systems. Usually the manufacturer will provide the parts free of charge, but my time will need to be paid for by you. In order to successfully make a warranty claim you will need to provide an adequate proof of purchase. Not all manufacturers will entertain claims if you did not buy the bike from new yourself.
Yes, if it is from one of my supported brands I can test it. At the time of writing only the Bosch system provides a detailed report, but the others will highlight significant issues.
I see an uptick in e-bike battery enquiries after periods of cold weather. If the battery is stored in a shed, or garage, and subjected to low temperatures it will deliver significantly less range. This will return to normal as the weather improves.
Conversely, a battery that is left somewhere very hot, like the back of a car, or in a conservatory, during hot sunny weather, can shut itself down (thermal lock). This is to prevent the risk of fire, but will take some time to reset, which could spoil your riding plans.
To keep your e-bike running safely and efficiently, you should generally schedule a professional service every 6 to 12 months, or every 1,000 to 2,000 kilometres (~620 to 1,240 miles).
Because e-bikes are heavier and produce more torque than standard bicycles, their components—especially chains and brake pads—wear down faster.
Service Intervals by Rider Type
• Casual Riders (weekends/short trips): A full service once a year or every 12–18 months is typically sufficient.
• Frequent Commuters (daily use): Plan for a basic tune-up every 3 to 4 months or every 1,000 miles.
• Mountain/Cargo Bikers: Heavy loads and muddy terrain accelerate wear; these bikes often need professional checks every 3 to 6 months.
Manufacturer Recommendations
• The "Break-in" Service: Many manufacturers recommend an initial check-up one month (or ~200–500km) after purchase to adjust cables and bolts that settle during early use.
• Software Updates: Leading systems like Bosch may display service reminders on the screen and require periodic firmware updates to optimise motor performance and battery health.
At-Home Maintenance Checklist
Regular home care can extend the time between professional services:
• Weekly: Check tyre pressure, clean drivetrain parts, and apply e-bike specific chain lube.(https://www.theelectricbikeshop.co.uk/a-guide-to-chain-lube/)
• Monthly: Inspect brake pads for wear and check for any loose bolts or "M-check" safety points.
• Every 3 Months: If storing the bike, ensure the battery remains between 30% and 60% charge; never store it at 0% or 100% for long periods. And don't leave it anywhere that it's exposed to low temperatures (below 4°F), or high temperatures (ABOVE 100℉).
Shimano e-bike maintenance differs from regular bike maintenance primarily due to the presence of electronic components and the motor system. Here are some key differences:
1. Battery Care: E-bikes have batteries that require proper charging, storage, and periodic checks to ensure longevity and performance. Regular bikes do not have this component.
2. Motor System Maintenance: Shimano e-bikes have a motor that needs occasional inspection for proper functioning, including checking connections, software updates, and sometimes cleaning.
3. Electronic Shifting: Many Shimano e-bikes feature electronic gear shifting systems (like Di2), which require software updates, battery charging, and occasional diagnostics unlike mechanical shifting on regular bikes.
4. Sensor Checks: E-bikes often have sensors (torque, speed) that need to be checked for calibration and proper operation.
5. Software Updates: Shimano offers software updates for e-bike systems to improve performance and fix bugs, which is not applicable to regular bikes.
6. Mechanical Components: Regular maintenance like chain lubrication, brake checks, tire pressure, and drivetrain upkeep still apply but sometimes with specific recommendations for e-bikes due to higher speeds and weights.
In summary, Shimano e-bike maintenance includes all regular bike care plus additional attention to electronic components and software. Regularly consulting your Shimano e-bike manual and authorized service centers is recommended.
Professional e-bike servicing in East Sussex offers several key benefits:
1. Enhanced Safety: Regular checks help identify and fix potential issues with brakes, tires, lights, and electrical systems, ensuring a safer ride.
2. Prolonged Lifespan: E-bikes endure extra strain due to their power and weight. Professional maintenance reduces wear on components like chains, brakes, and batteries, extending their life.
3. Optimal Performance: Servicing includes tuning the motor and updating software to maintain smooth power delivery and efficiency, increasing your e-bike's range per charge.
4. Cost Savings: Early detection of minor problems prevents costly repairs later. Professionals have the tools to diagnose complex electrical issues that owners might miss.
5. Specialized Expertise: E-bike systems require trained technicians familiar with electrical components and diagnostic software, ensuring precise care.
6. Warranty Compliance: Proper servicing helps keep your e-bike warranty valid.

Maintaining your Bosch e-bike properly involves careful battery care, regular cleaning, general upkeep, and professional motor servicing. Here's a detailed guide:
1. Battery Care:
• Use the original Bosch charger.
• Charge in a dry, ventilated space at room temperature.
• Avoid overcharging and deep discharges; keep charge between 20%-90% for daily use.
• For long storage, charge to 30%-60% and store in a cool, dry place.
• Clean battery contacts occasionally and avoid water jets or high-pressure cleaning on the battery.
• Handle the battery gently and never open it.
2. Cleaning:
• Remove the battery before cleaning the bike..
• Use bike shampoo, a brush, and soft sponge.
• Avoid high-pressure washers or steam cleaners.
• Dry the bike and do a function check after washing.
3. General Maintenance:
• Clean and lubricate the chain regularly.
• Maintain proper tire pressure.
• Check and tighten bolts and screws regularly.
• Store the bike under cover to protect it from weather.
4. Motor Maintenance:
• Bosch motors are mostly maintenance-free; do not open or repair yourself.
• If you hear unusual noises, take the bike to an authorized Bosch dealer.
• Only authorized professionals should service motor components.
